Fact Check: Commissioner misquoted on anti-consorting laws
In an article published yesterday, the Canberra Times reported AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw said “the recent death of the head of the Canberra chapter of the Comanchero bikie gang showed the ACT needed to consider anti-consorting rules”.
This is inaccurate and a misrepresentation of the comments made.
Matters regarding anti-consorting laws in the ACT are a matter for the Chief Police Officer in the ACT and the ACT Government. Commissioner Kershaw reiterated this point several times.
The AFP will correct the record when our members are misquoted.
