Sudan-born man charged with nine alleged visa breaches in Victoria
A Sudan-born man is set to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tonight (30 August, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.
The AFP charged the man, 37, today (30 August, 2024), after he was located in Melbourne.
It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations and being within an exclusion zone on multiple occasions.
The man has been charged with:
- Five counts of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth); and
- Four counts of failing to remain 200 metres outside the exclusion zone of a school, contrary to section 76DAB(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).
These offences carry a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine for each offence.
