Man charged for alleged act of indecency on Sydney-bound flight
A Sydney man is expected to appear before Downing Centre Local Court today (22 July, 2024) charged with an act of indecency onboard an international flight.
The man, 50, was travelling on a flight from Dubai to Sydney after he allegedly harassed a fellow passenger. The passenger alerted the airline crew to the incident, who then notified the AFP.
AFP officers attended the aircraft’s arrival at Sydney Airport on 27 April 2024. Officers investigated the claims, interviewing passengers and airline crew.
On 10 June 2024, the man attended the AFP office at Sydney Airport and was issued with a court attendance notice.
The man will face one count of an act of indecency without consent, contrary to section 60(1) of the Crimes Act 1900 (ACT).
AFP Acting Sydney Airport Police Commander Dom Stephenson said all travellers had the right to feel safe and should not be subjected to offensive behaviour.
“When travelling through the airport and when on a plane, people are bound by Australian law and where there is evidence that someone has committed a criminal offence, the AFP will take action,” Det. A/Supt Stephenson said.
“The AFP is committed to supporting airport staff and aviation partners and will continue to protect law-abiding Australians while maintaining zero tolerance for inappropriate behaviour.”
