Iraqi-born man charged with two alleged visa breaches

An Iraqi-born man has appeared before Parramatta Local Court today (17 July, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 45, on Wednesday, 17 July, 2024, after he was arrested in Sydney.

It will be alleged the man breached two of the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations.

The man has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This office carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.

The man was refused bail and is next scheduled to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Friday, 19 July, 2024.
