Our work in Mexico and Central America

Our work

The AFP established its office in Mexico City in 2017. Our office works with police forces in 9 countries across Central America including Cuba, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama.

This region is a critical transit country to the USA for people and narcotics and we're committed to working with law enforcement to combat transnational serious and organised crime.

Countries in the region are key trade and financial hubs, making them important transit points for drug trafficking to Australia, and a base for money laundering.

Mexico is one of the world’s most dangerous law enforcement operating environments. We work closely with across the region including the:

  • Mexican Fiscalia General de la Republic
  • Mexican Secretaría de Marina
  • Centro Nacional de Inteligencia in Mexico
  • Policia Nacional de Panama
  • Organismo de Investigación Judicial
  • Policia de Control de Drogas in Costa Rica.

We also work closely with law enforcement agencies across the United States, Canada and United Kingdom, sharing assets, capabilities and resources to support our priorities.
