Zimbabwean man charged with alleged visa breach in NSW

A Zimbabwean national is set to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (13 January, 2026) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 34, yesterday (12 January, 2026) after New South Wales Police arrested him in Sydney.

It will be alleged the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa by failing to keep his electronic monitoring device charged.

He has been charged with:

  • Failing to ensure the monitoring device or any related monitoring equipment is kept in good working order, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine.

NSW Police charged the man for an alleged breach of bail and possession of prohibited drugs.
