Sydney-based Sudanese woman charged with alleged visa breach

A Sudanese-born woman is expected to appear in Fairfield Local Court today (15 May, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to maintain her electronic monitoring device.

The AFP arrested and charged the woman, 45, yesterday (14 May, 2024), after locating her in western Sydney.

It will be alleged the woman breached the conditions of her Commonwealth visa between 5 April to 12 May, 2024 by failing to keep a monitoring device in working order.

The woman has been charged with one count of failing to ensure that the holder’s monitoring device remains in good working order, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $93,900 fine.
