Sudanese-born man charged with one alleged visa breach

A Sudanese-born man will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today (27 August, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP arrested the man, 46, yesterday (26 August, 2024) with the assistance of Victoria Police, after locating him in Melbourne.

It will be alleged the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa on 23 and 24 August, 2024 by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations. 

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $93,900 fine.
