Sudanese-born man charged with alleged visa breaches in WA

A Sudanese-born man is expected to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 19 June, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew and failing to comply with a monitoring condition.

The AFP charged the man, 29, yesterday (Tuesday, 18 June, 2024) after locating him in Perth.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa over a two-day period (12-13 June, 2024), by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations and failing to comply with a monitoring condition.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C (1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth);
  • One count of failing to comply with a monitoring condition, contrary to section 76B (1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

Each offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $93,900 fine.
