Sudanese-born man charged with an alleged visa breach

A Sudanese-born man is expected to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tonight (9 July, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew.

The AFP charged the man, 34, today (9 July, 2024), after locating him in Werribee.

It will be alleged the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa on 3 July, 2024, by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
