Somalian-born man charged with alleged visa breach

A Somalian-born man is set to appear before the Richlands Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday 26 June, 2024), charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 29, on Tuesday 25 June, 2024 in Brisbane.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa between Sunday 23 and Monday 24 June, 2024 by failing to remain at a notified address.

The man has been charged with one count of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C (1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $93,900 fine.
