Queensland man charged for alleged disorderly behaviour at Perth Airport
A Queensland man is expected to face Perth Magistrates Court today (12 September, 2024) charged with allegedly engaging in disorderly behaviour on board a domestic flight.
AFP officers at Perth Airport responded to a request for assistance from airline staff yesterday (Wednesday, 11 September, 2024) after the man, who was allegedly intoxicated, was removed from the aircraft.
It is alleged the Brisbane man, 40, engaged in disorderly behaviour and used offensive language while escorted from the aircraft.
AFP officers interviewed the man and charged him with disorderly behaviour in public, contrary to section 74A(1)(2) of the Criminal Code Act Compilation Act 1913 (WA).
The maximum penalty for this offence is a $6,000 fine.
AFP Perth Airport Acting Superintendent Shona Davis said all travellers had a right to feel safe onboard aircrafts and within the airport environment.
“The AFP has a zero-tolerance policy for anyone who puts the safety of passengers, crew and officers at risk,” A/Supt Davis said.
“Everyone has the right to travel safely, and airline staff do not need to deal with abusive or violent behaviour. The AFP will not hesitate to charge those who commit criminal offences through their poor behaviour at airports.”
