Burundi-born man charged with alleged visa breach

A Burundi-born man is expected to appear in the Northbridge Magistrates Court tomorrow (26 May, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew.

The AFP charged the man, 42, today (25 May, 2024), after locating him in Perth.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa between 24 May and 25 May, 2024, by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth)

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
