AFP seeking man over child sex offences

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has renewed a call for information on the whereabouts of a 58-year-old Slovenian national wanted for child sex offences committed in Slovenia.

An age-progressed image of Joze Smit (aka Joza Smit and Joseph Smit) showing an impression of his current appearance is available on the AFP’s social media channels. An Extradition Arrest Warrant was issued in July 2017 for Smit, who is believed to have been residing in Australia since April 2000, when his visa expired.

He was last seen in October 2018, in the Melbourne suburb of Essendon. Information received by police indicates he frequents businesses and establishments in the vicinity of Mount Alexander Road and Lincoln Road, Essendon.

Police are seeking assistance from the public in locating Joze Smit. People who may be friends or family of Smit, have any information on his current whereabouts, or possess recent images of him, are urged to come forward. He is approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall and of stocky build, with a fair complexion, balding dark hair and brown eyes.

Members of the public should not approach Mr Smit if they believe they have had contact with him, or are aware of his location, as he is considered dangerous.

Any information should be provided immediately to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.
