Afghanistan-born man charged with two alleged visa breaches

An Afghanistan-born man has appeared before Bankstown Local Court today (20 August, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 31, yesterday (19 August, 2024), after he was located in Sydney.

It will be alleged the man breached two of the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by failing to observe his visa conditions.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), and
  • One count of failing to comply with the requirement not to contact victim of an offence under Section 76DAC(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

These offences carry a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $93,900 fine for each offence.

The man appeared before Bankstown Local Court today (20 August, 2024) and was remanded into custody.

The 31-year-old is next expected to appear on 9 October, 2024.
