Offenders arrested in Gowrie garage

Wednesday, 23 July 2008

ACT Policing surrounded a Gowrie residential address and took five people into custody after investigations into two separate aggravated robberies in Tuggeranong earlier this afternoon.

The first of the alleged aggravated robberies occurred around 2pm today when a 14-year-old girl walking on Castleton Crescent in Gowrie was threatened by two female offenders and robbed of her bag.

Police received information which linked the alleged offenders to a blue vehicle.

A short time later, the same two juvenile females are alleged to have assaulted, threatened and robbed two other girls, both aged 17 years, whilst walking on Cowlishaw St in Greenway. During the robbery, it was alleged the victims were threatened with a screwdriver and one of the victim’s bags was stolen.

Witnesses reported seeing the two alleged offenders getting into a navy blue Holden Statesman sedan which was then linked to a Gowrie address.

In a co-ordinated effort by Tuggeranong General Duties patrols, Specialist Response and Security members and detectives attached to the Property Crime Team, the immediate area surrounding the Gowrie address was quickly cordoned off and around 3pm, police took five people into custody.

Apprehended at the Gowrie address were the two alleged female offenders, one aged 13 years and the other 14 years. Three males, two aged 17 years and another aged 20, were also taken into custody and are assisting police with their enquiries.
